For students who have been identified as More Able, Gifted and Talented, or those who have Higher Prior Attainment, we ensure that every one is able to reach their full potential and beyond, through a broad range of opportunities, new horizons and 'reach for the stars' aspirations.
We want the very best for all our students, but we recognise the special skills and talents of individuals, and do everything we can to nurture and develop them so that they can achieve as highly as possible. When students are identified as More Able, Gifted and Talented, or have Higher Prior Attainment, we can put additional support and resources in place to help them meet their goals.
If you think that your child meets the criteria for MA, G&T or HPA, please contact our More Able Co-ordinator, Miss A Holt.
Stretch and Challenge
From the very beginning in Year 7, we work with groups of students and individuals who have been identified as having the potential to reach the highest grades and go on to the most prestigious universities with the widest career options. We nurture the talent of these young people, recognising the contribution that they will be able to make in the future.
We work closely with a range of partners to provide additional and mentoring, as well as ensuring that all teachers know who are most able students are, so that they can provide them with the most rigorous and challenging work in order to for them to flourish and reach their full potential.

The Brilliant Club
The Brilliant Club is an award-winning university access charity that works with schools and universities across the UK, including King's Academy Prospect.
The Brilliant Club exists to increase the number of pupils from under-represented backgrounds progressing to highly selective universities. They do this by mobilising the PhD community to share its academic expertise with state schools.
The Scholars Programme recruits, trains and places doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in schools to deliver programmes of university-style tutorials, which are supplemented by two university trips. Data from UCAS shows that students completing The Scholars Programme were significantly more likely to apply to, receive an offer from and progress to a highly-selective university
Each year, a number of our most able students will participate in the scholars programme, benefiting from expert university tuition, the chance to visit Oxford University and King’s College, London.
We are extremely proud of Year 10 student Connie, who this year had her Brilliant Club essay scrutinised by a panel of doctoral researchers and then published in the prestigious Brilliant Club Scholars journal.
Coach Bright
The Peer-to-Peer Programme gives two of our year groups the chance to benefit from the 1-1 environment of coaching. Coaches meet with their coachee once a week in school to deliver 1-1 coaching sessions. Coach Bright trains senior pupils as the academic coaches, pairing them up with a younger pupil in years 7-10. Both coach and coachee will be at different, but pivotal points of their educational journey – the programme encourages the support to help both become independent and resilient learners.
Training senior students as academic coaches ensures younger students receive quality academic support from a relatable role model. Students develop listening, communication and leadership skills to aid them on the path to higher education, whilst working towards a Student Leadership Accreditation.
Younger students set their programme goal with their coach and it is down to them to decide together on the best use of their time. Through tailored coaching in the shared common environment of their school, our hope is that both coach and coachee will learn and develop from each other throughout the 7 weeks.
We run Launch and Graduation Trips where all pupils will have the chance to explore university campuses together, where activities will be led by coaches in order to give a sense of what being an independent student is really like. Upon graduating, senior pupils become CoachBright Ambassadors, supporting their future development.
The University of Reading
We enjoy a strong relationship with The University of Reading, an internationally recognised seat of learning excellence right on our doorstop, and indeed a popular destination for many of our Pros6 students.
We work with UoR on a wide range of programmes to support out more able students, from study skills, subject workshops and university experiences. We also benefit from the Students in Schools volunteer project, which sees graduate and undergraduate students coming into school to support our students on their journey to higher education.
